Construction Inspector
Position Summary:
Performs responsible skilled and technical work in support of the water and wastewater engineering program; inspects all stages of the installation of water and wastewater pipes and appurtenances, including testing and assuring water quality, for private development and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects; makes field decisions on the approval of construction methods and makes recommendations to engineers and contractors on problem resolution;
uses GPS technology and GIS software to locate existing and new water and wastewater assets.
- Verify all materials delivered to site meet ACSA approved product lists and/or approved shop drawings.
- Assure all water and sewer pipe and appurtenances are installed per ACSA specifications and best industry standards, including safety.
- Perform all required tests on new construction, including pressure tests on water and sewer lines, vacuum tests on manholes, and collect water samples for bacteriological testing at a certified lab.
- Perform a final inspection and prepare a written punch list of items that need to be corrected.
- Review assigned plans in preparation for preconstruction meetings prior to job commencement.
- Approve as-built plans for acceptance of utilities.
- Record details from new construction using asset management software.
- Assist with installation, calibration, and removal of water and sewer flow meters as a confined space attendant.
- Locate and mark existing water and sewer subsurface utilities related to new construction and assist Utility Location Technicians as needed.
- Coordinate with affected customers through updates, outage notification, and serve as first point of contact during CIP project assignments.
- Thorough knowledge of water and wastewater installation methods, practices, and materials, terminology, engineering design, and construction and maintenance; ability to read and interpret plans and specifications accurately and compare them with construction in progress.
- Valid driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia, OSHA safety training, confined space training.
- 3 to 5 years of job-related experience; some college preferred.
Hiring Range $58,994 - $70,793
