Position Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Construction Project Manager to lead complex commercial and industrial building projects in Charlottesville, Virginia. This hands-on role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of project execution, including budgets, schedules, procurement, field coordination, quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate has at least five years of project management experience with a mechanical contractor or subcontractor and a strong background managing HVAC, plumbing, piping, or other mechanical construction projects. This position is well suited for a Project Manager who enjoys working onsite, collaborating closely with field teams, and seeing projects progress from planning through completion.

Project Manager Responsibilities
  • Lead all aspects of commercial and industrial mechanical construction projects from preconstruction through final completion.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, quality standards, safety requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Participate in bid reviews and evaluate project scope, risk, staffing, scheduling, and financial considerations to support go/no-go decisions.
  • Manage project startup, buyout activities, procurement, subcontractor selection, and material and equipment planning.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, field personnel, vendors, customers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Maintain a continuous flow of labor, materials, equipment, and information for large, long-term construction projects.
  • Lead work-in-progress reviews and maintain accurate project financial forecasts.
  • Monitor job costs, productivity, change orders, billing, and overall project profitability.
  • Provide regular project status, cost, schedule, and risk updates to leadership and project stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary customer contact throughout the project.
  • Lead owner, contractor, subcontractor, and internal project meetings.
  • Communicate schedule changes, budget updates, project risks, and key milestones clearly and promptly.
  • Review drawings, specifications, submittals, contracts, and project documents to support quality installation and timely completion.
  • Support payroll approvals, permitting, documentation, and other project administration activities.
  • Identify potential issues early and develop practical solutions to protect project schedules and budgets.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through active participation in safety meetings, planning, and field initiatives.
  • Ensure projects comply with company procedures, contract requirements, OSHA regulations, and applicable codes.
Qualifications

  • At least five years of commercial or industrial construction project management experience.
  • Recent experience working as a Project Manager for a mechanical contractor or subcontractor.
  • Hands-on experience managing HVAC, plumbing, piping, or mechanical construction projects.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or large projects lasting one year or longer.
  • Strong understanding of project budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, procurement, and subcontractor management.
