The Special Assignments Manager (Cost Accounting/Finance) is responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring construction cost systems to ensure accurate pricing and effective cost control across all communities. This role partners closely with Division Cost Manager, Production, and Sales to support profitability and ensure homes are built within approved estimates and company standards.
Essential Responsibilities- Establish and maintain construction costs related to municipal requirements, architectural standards, and product specifications.
- Ensure accurate community area figure calculations are completed and entered in accordance with established timelines.
- Conduct monthly field audits to review subcontractor cost overruns and collaborate with Production on corrective actions.
- Perform monthly analysis of cost variances, reserves, estimated completion costs, and direct profit changes.
- Develop and implement cost analysis control and cost reduction initiatives with appropriate approvals.
- Assist with subcontractor agreements, vendor bids, specifications, and plan reviews as needed.
- Provide training to production, sales, and office staff on costing processes, specifications, and design updates.
- Ensure Master Selection Sheets are kept current and properly distributed.
- Review new sales for accurate DP prior to submittal to DM.
- Review estimates for accuracy and cost effectiveness prior to estimate lock.
- Project Manager or construction experience preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business, Finance, or a related field, preferred.
- Understanding of residential construction costs, estimating, and budgeting.
- Experience working cross-functionally with production, sales, and vendor partners.
- Proficiency in construction costing systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and training skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Familiarity with subcontractor agreements, specifications, and plan review processes.
- Demonstrated experience implementing cost control or cost reduction initiatives.
This position operates in a professional office environment with regular travel to communities and job sites as required to conduct field audits and coordinate with construction teams.
Position pays between $85,000-$95,000 per year plus bonus potential.
