Assistant Professor of General Plastic Surgery and Aesthetic Surgery

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Plastic Surgery Residency Trained and Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship Trained surgeon to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to develop a practice dedicated to general plastic surgery with a focus on aesthetic plastic surgery. The successful candidate will be board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. In addition to advanced clinical skills, the successful candidate will also show promise as an academic surgeon with a track record of productivity in education and research.

The Department of Plastic Surgery, Maxillofacial and Oral Health provides comprehensive care for a variety of patients including programs in Adult Reconstruction, Pediatric Plastic and Craniofacial Surgery, Dentistry, Aesthetic Surgery and Hand Surgery. There is an ACGME accredited 6-year plastic surgery residency program within the department consisting of 2-3 integrated residents per year and teaching is considered a fundamental expectation of the faculty.

There are ample resources for academic pursuits within the department and across grounds. In addition to clinical duties (90% effort), the faculty member will be expected to develop non-clinical activities related to education and research (10% effort) while also meeting expectations in the service-based arenas. Involvement in internal and external leadership positions is also encouraged. The successful applicant will have a primary appointment within Plastic Surgery and report primarily to Dr.

Scott Hollenbeck, the Chair of the Plastic Surgery Department.

The department is growing and exploring clinical sites distinct from the UVA University Hospital. It is expected that each faculty member be prepared to work within these off-site areas approximately 2 days / month. This may include area hospitals and clinics that are up to 1 hour away from Charlottesville.

The Aesthetic Surgery service line is managed through the Craniofacial and Aesthetic Surgery Division, and is under the oversight of Division Chief Michael Grant, MD, PhD. Integrating in with this division and team will be essential. Opportunities for combining expertise within the clinical setting are available. Call responsibilities are typically occurring within the UVA University Hospital and are shared across the service line and department depending on training and expertise.

This position will be expected to cover general plastic surgery call 3 - 4 times / month.

• Perform a wide range of plastic surgery procedures, including elective and urgent / emergent care. The majority of the practice will fall into general plastic and aesthetic plastic surgery of the face, breast and body.
• Cover plastic surgery call at a level 1 trauma center and participate in the Plastic Surgery call pool, which consists of wound care, tissue replantation, laceration repair, screening transfer requests and evaluating urgent needs within the practice as well as other health system related service needs.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including Otolaryngology, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, General Surgery and Orthopedic Surgery as well as Advanced Practice Providers to provide comprehensive care when needed.
• Contribute to resident and fellow education through teaching and mentorship activities.
• Engage in scholarly activities, including research and publication, to advance the field of Plastic Surgery.
