General Definition of Work
The Social Emotional Learning Counselor/Coach teaches students tools and skills for peaceful conflict resolution, improved focus and concentration, greater control and awareness of thoughts and emotions, improved self-regulation, as well as stress reduction and relaxation. The SEL Counselor/Coach is a support for students who are in crisis, who struggle with emotional regulation, and/or who need to develop their social and emotional skills in order to participate in academic tasks with their peers.

Essential Functions- Collaborate with administrators, teachers, and staff to understand and address student behaviors and academic needs to increase access to curriculum and learning;
- Build staff capacity to meet student needs by collaborating on creation of individual student plans;
- Engage administrators, teachers, and staff in addressing inclusivity, cultural, and racial barriers;
- Provide clear, supportive feedback and role model effective practices;
- Research, extract, and provide best practices in a variety of areas such as behavior management, discipline, SBIT/RTL, attendance, and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum and assessments;
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
Employee will possess demonstrated knowledge and skill as a practitioner in specialized contemplative methods of instruction, techniques or practice. Experience and skills may include teaching one or more kinds of contemplative class or workshop formats including, but not limited to different styles of mindfulness, various forms of meditation, creative, mindful movement (yoga), etc. Prefer training in Responsive Classroom, Safe Brain Training, and CPI and experience teaching yoga (or another form of mindful movement) and mindfulness in a school setting.
Bilingual language skills in English and Spanish also preferred.
Bachelor’s degree with minimum of three years of experience working in Human Services, education or a related field as well as experience working in positions that require teamwork.
