Science Teacher, Special Education Teacher
The Covenant School, an independent Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences school in Charlottesville, Virginia, is seeking a dedicated educator to join our Upper School Science Department beginning in the 2026-27 school year. Serving more than 750 students from Pre-K through Grade 12, our school is a gospel-centered community of faith and learning committed to the formation of the whole person through a rich and humane education.

Position OverviewThe Upper School Science Teacher will teach a combination of Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, Advanced Chemistry, Advanced Biology, and/or Honors Environmental Science, depending on departmental needs and candidate expertise. The role may include five sections for a full-time appointment or fewer sections for a part‑time candidate with particular strength in one or more advanced‑level courses.
We are seeking an educator who enjoys working with adolescents and who can establish an orderly, respectful, and intellectually vibrant classroom. The teacher approaches this work with both intellectual seriousness and care for students’ formation, helping students grow in independence, intellectual confidence, and disciplined habits of scientific thinking. Through clear instruction, laboratory experience, and guided discussion, students learn to approach scientific questions with rigor, curiosity, and humility.
In keeping with the school’s mission, the teacher integrates Christian faith naturally and thoughtfully into instruction, allowing Christian truth to illuminate the study of science while honoring the integrity of the discipline and the practices of scientific inquiry.
Leadership OpportunityCandidates with significant experience and demonstrated leadership ability may be considered for the role of Science Department Chair. This position includes oversight of curriculum development, faculty mentoring, and departmental coordination, in addition to normal teaching duties.

Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or a related scientific field required
- Advanced degree preferred
- Experience teaching advanced‑level high school science preferred
- Ability to integrate Christian faith authentically and thoughtfully in the context of teaching
