Position: Middle School Geography Teacher (Grade 7)

The Covenant School, an independent Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences school in Charlottesville, Virginia, is seeking a dedicated educator to teach World Geography and Governments (7th Grade) in the 2026-27 school year. Serving more than 750 students from Pre‑K through Grade 12, our school is a gospel-centered community of faith and learning committed to the formation of the whole person through a rich and humane education.

Faculty at The Covenant School understand teaching as a Christian vocation. They take personal responsibility for students’ intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth and work together to cultivate a community of scholars in which students are known, challenged, and formed in habits of thought and character for lives of faithful service.

Position Overview:

The World Geography and Government teacher leads a foundational course that introduces students to the many cultures and forms of government throughout our world. Students study physical geography, key historical events, and the relationship between place, culture, and government, developing both conceptual understanding and practical fluency with maps and global regions. Over time, students build a durable mental map of the world that supports further study and prepares them to engage thoughtfully as informed citizens.

We are seeking an educator who:

  • Enjoys working with adolescents and who can establish an orderly, respectful, and intellectually vibrant classroom.
  • Approaches their work with both intellectual seriousness and care for students’ formation, honoring the developmental stage of middle school students while inviting them into meaningful inquiry.
  • Provides clear instruction, meaningful discussion, and attentive mentorship.
  • Invites students to wrestle with enduring questions:
What does it mean to be a citizen of a nation and also a participant in a global community? Is conflict inevitable? How does a nation’s geography shape culture?

In keeping with the school’s mission, the teacher integrates Christian faith naturally and thoughtfully into instruction, modeling a life of faith while honoring the academic study of Geography.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Proven experience teaching middle school students preferred
  • Ability to integrate Christian faith authentically and thoughtfully in the context of teaching

We welcome candidates whose experiences and backgrounds enrich this shared work, within a community shaped by a shared commitment to the school’s Christian mission and educational vision.
