Lower School Teacher Assistant (Transitional Kindergarten)

The Covenant School, an independent Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences school in Charlottesville, Virginia, is seeking a full-time Teacher Assistant for Transitional Kindergarten beginning in the 2026‑27 school year. Serving more than 750 students from Pre‑K through Grade 12, our school is a gospel‑centered community of faith and learning committed to the formation of the whole person through a rich and humane education.

The Teacher Assistant works in close partnership with the Lead Teacher to support the academic, social, emotional, and developmental growth of Transitional Kindergarten students. In collaboration with the Lead Teacher, the Teacher Assistant supports daily instruction, helps differentiate lessons, and assists in meeting the individual needs of young learners within a nurturing, structured, and joy‑filled classroom environment.

• Working with individual students and small groups to support early literacy, numeracy, fine motor development, and foundational learning skills
• Assisting the Lead Teacher in adapting lessons and activities to meet a range of developmental levels, learning styles, and readiness
• Supporting students in developing independence, self‑regulation, social skills, and positive classroom routines
• Observing student progress and sharing insights with the Lead Teacher to inform instructional decisions and supports
• Preparing and organizing instructional materials, learning centers, and classroom environments that promote engagement and exploration
• Supervising students in classrooms and shared spaces, including hallways, cafeteria, playground, gymnasium, and during field trips

• Background and/or education in Early Childhood learning
• Experience working with young children
• A mature Christian faith
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team
• Ability to integrate Christian faith authentically within the context of teaching and daily interactions
