Adjunct Faculty Pool - Chemistry

Job Description

Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two-year institution of higher education that serves Central Virginia. We are seeking an adjunct faculty member in Chemistry to teach at any PVCC location, including regional centers and correctional facilities.

• Adjunct faculty positions are appointed on a course‑by‑course, semester basis.
• Teach developmental and/or college‑level chemistry courses, which may include distance‑learning via online platforms or face‑to‑face instruction.
• Prepare lesson plans, course materials, and grading rubrics.
• Assess student performance, provide feedback, and maintain equitable grading practices.
• Participate in departmental meetings and professional development activities as needed.
• May perform other duties assigned by the department or agency.
• Travel to and from any college campus or site location as required.

• Master’s degree in chemistry or Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in chemistry.
• Expert knowledge and experience in the subject area, with a history of successful teaching or related experience.
• Minimum two years of teaching experience and/or work experience in the field.
• Experience with online teaching and course delivery.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

May be required to assist the agency or state government in emergencies declared by the Governor.

Travel to and from any assigned college campus or site location.
