About the Position
Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two-year institution of higher education serving Central Virginia. We are seeking adjunct faculty members to teach courses in the discipline of Political Science. Adjunct faculty positions are appointed on a course‑by‑course, semester basis as needed.
Responsibilities- Plan, prepare, and teach courses to students with a variety of academic backgrounds.
- Deliver instruction in face‑to‑face or distance‑learning formats, including day, evening, weekend, and remote instruction.
- Teach at any PVCC location, including the Giuseppe Center and correctional facilities in Fluvanna, Buckingham, and Dillwyn.
- Participate in the development and revision of curriculum and course materials.
- Keep up to date with current developments and best practices in Political Science education.
- Assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor, as required.
- Possibly conduct special assignments and perform other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in Political Science or a graduate degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Political Science.
- Minimum of two years of teaching experience with knowledge of online teaching.
- Teaching experience specifically in Political Science.
- Proven teaching strategies that promote student success and working knowledge of technology resources.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and commitment to inclusive learning.
- Effective communication and organization skills.
