School-based Substitute Teacher
Lakeside Middle School – 2026-27 School Year.
Full‑time, Benefits‑eligible
. Work 7.25 hours per day, 10 months (188 days) per year.
As a full‑time substitute teacher, you will cover classroom teacher, specialist, or teaching assistant roles based on school needs each day. Additional responsibilities may include covering for office assistants or supporting instruction with a classroom teacher.
Essential Functions- Serve in the absence of the classroom teacher.
- Deliver the lesson plan created by the classroom teacher.
- Meet and instruct students at the designated location and time.
- Develop and maintain the physical classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
- Prepare for assigned classes and provide evidence of preparation upon request.
- Encourage students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains and upholds school and county policies and procedures.
- Maintains required records per law, system policy, and administrative regulations.
- Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules and administrative regulations.
- Cooperates with other staff members.
- Seeks clarity from school administration or designee regarding questions related to students, instruction, or other concerns.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relations.
- Performs related duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with school and system policies.
Ability to develop and maintain an empathetic attitude toward students; willingness to learn specialized instructional and management techniques; effective communication and relationship building with students, parents, and staff; willingness to obtain CPR certification.
Education & ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent required. Preference given to candidates with prior teaching experience or eligibility for a Virginia Teaching License.
Physical Conditions & Nature of WorkTypical duties include frequent walking, standing, light lifting (up to 40 pounds), occasional field‑trip travel, occasional use of mechanical devices to move students, possible lifting of equipment up to 50 pounds, and attendance at parent conferences, building‑level meetings, division‑wide meetings, and training activities beyond normal hours. Daily close contact with children for classroom management is also required.
