Salary: $84,968 to $102,000 Per Year
Job DescriptionThis role coordinates curriculum, assessment, and instructional practices across the Division, with a focus on Health, Physical Education, and Athletics. The Coordinator will provide leadership to develop, implement, and assess curricula aligned with the Division’s Vision, Mission, and Goals; collaborate with the Department of Professional Learning; manage the Virginia High School League compliance; oversee assessment development; and support coaching and professional development initiatives.
EssentialFunctions
- Provides leadership to develop, implement, and assess the Division curricula aligned with the mission, vision, and goals.
- Coordinates secondary schools' athletics departments and monitors Virginia High School League changes, regulations, and Division compliance.
- Develops formative and summative assessments in collaboration with teachers, students, and school leaders.
- Collaborates with division and school staff to support curriculum integration and continuity of PreK‑12 core content areas, technology applications, and research and media skills.
- Participates in state and national curriculum organizations, stays informed on latest research, disseminates information, and serves as a resource to parents, staff, the School Board, and community groups.
- Works with teams to ensure alignment of curriculum and student performance benchmarks with state Standards of Learning and Standards of Accreditation.
- Assists the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction in implementing, administering, and evaluating instructional programs.
- Determines multiple student performance measures for program analysis to implement instructional improvement and intervention services.
- Co‑teaches in preK‑12 classrooms to model best instructional practices, technology applications, and exemplary lesson planning.
- Participates in at least one Professional Learning Community per school to elicit feedback and support the Professional Learning Community developmental process.
- Provides reflective coaching to teachers and principals to implement the Framework for Quality Learning.
- Directs learning resource adoption and advises on selection of resources with an equity focus.
- Plans and facilitates regular Division‑wide coach meetings and provides professional development for instructional coaches.
- Communicates with stakeholders regarding the assigned content area, prepares and presents School Board and state reports.
- Supports hiring interviews, teacher performance appraisals, and provides direct feedback for teacher improvement.
- Leads and supports programs for novice teachers, participates in budget and grant oversight, and maintains the Division web page.
- Develops, reviews, and monitors programs to support historically marginalized enrollment groups.
- Adheres to expectations in project management, team leadership, data collection and analysis, and division improvement planning.
- Performs related duties as assigned by the administration, in accordance with policies and practices.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of best practices in curriculum, assessment, and instruction.
- Ability to use coaching techniques and questions with adults.
- Experience with supervision skills and the Framework of Quality Instruction, Professional Learning Community, and Teacher Performance Appraisal.
- Understanding of recent VDOE changes for career and technical education.
- Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or related field.
- Minimum five years of relevant instructional experience.
- Eligibility for or holding a Virginia Department of Education license in the applicable area (administration endorsement preferred).
- At least 5 years of relevant experience.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
- Administration/Supervision license preferred.
