The Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy seeks applicants for an Assistant Director of Academic Operations to provide effective advising and academic support to a caseload of students across our undergraduate programs.

Reporting to the Director of Academic Operations, the Assistant Director of Academic Operations supports the development and implementation of academic programs within the Batten School. The scope of work for this position includes supporting Batten faculty and GTAs in course execution, academic advising, aligning resources for students and faculty, and collaborating with partners around Grounds. The Assistant Director will assist in the assessment of student needs, implement programming that addresses these needs, and support initiatives that enhance student and program outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and at least five years of related work experience in higher education supporting students' academic experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to solving problems and collaborating with colleagues in support of student success.
  • Demonstrated experience assessing and implementing academic supports for students with diverse needs and in sensitive situations.
  • Ability to navigate complexity and address the needs of diverse stakeholders.
  • Outstanding customer service skills with both students and faculty.
  • The ability to create and maintain organized workflows and processes with attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated discretion with confidential and sensitive information and matters.
  • High degree of comfort with technology and ability to learn new systems and platforms quickly.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience providing academic advising to students in a collegiate setting.
  • Experience creating and delivering programming to assist students transitioning to the University.
  • Specific experience developing, managing, and assessing programs in a University, School and/or center.
  • Experience interpreting and applying policy and procedures.
  • Experience working with SIS, Image Now, UBI, CRM systems, Stellic, and/or Salesforce.
About the Position

This position will remain open until filled. Review of applicants will begin May 24, 2026. This is an exempt level, benefited position.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $65,000 to $72,000 commensurate with education and experience.

This position is In-Person and located in Charlottesville, VA.

The anticipated start date is mid-July/early August, 2026.

This position will not sponsor applicants for work visas. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment per University policy.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
