Position Overview
The University of Virginia's School of Education and Human Development seeks qualified applicants for the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education to teach and provide content expertise in reading education. Opportunities may be on grounds in Charlottesville, Virginia or online during the Summer 2026, Fall 2026, and Spring 2027 semesters.
Instructional Levels Required- Graduate-level course instructors: terminal degree (PhD; EdD) in Education specializing in reading education or a related field.
- Undergraduate course instructors: master’s degree or terminal degree specializing in reading education or a related field.
- Strong commitment to teaching excellence.
- Preferred: previous preK-12 and post-secondary education teaching experience in the course content area.
- Cover letter must detail specific content area expertise and experience within reading education.
- Availability for in-person and/or online teaching modalities.
- These at-will positions for teaching a single course do not carry benefits.
- Background checks on all new hires prior to employment and an Education Verification are required.
- No visa sponsorship.

Instructional openings for the summer and fall semesters are typically filled in April, and openings for the spring semester are typically filled in November.
