Overview
This job profile is only for faculty members hired to complete a short-term and/or part-time academic work assignment, such as teaching one or more courses for one or two academic terms. Wage Faculty (Adjunct) may only be paid via Period Activity Pay.
The University of Virginia's School of Education and Human Development seeks qualified applicants for the Department of Human Services to teach and provide content expertise for programs in Counselor Education during the academic year and 2027 summer.
Positions will be filled on an as-needed basis according to curriculum needs and appointments are typically for teaching a single course. If no position is currently available, we will retain submitted applications on file for future consideration through the academic year and 2027 summer.
ResponsibilitiesA terminal degree in an appropriate field of study for the course to be taught is required. Applicants must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence. Previous K-12 or higher education teaching experience in the course content area is strongly preferred.

Compensation and EligibilityThis is a wage position that is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year. For more information, refer to the Wage Employment link: -029

Wage Faculty and all personnel actions associated with them are governed and approved by the EVPP and policy PROV-026:
Faculty Wage Employment.
Faculty wage employment is usually less than 0.5 FTE (teaching fewer than 6 credits or the equivalent of no more than 19 hours per week); is offered for only one or two semesters at a time; and applies to faculty members paid solely via Period Activity Pay. Wage Faculty (Adjunct) positions come with no expectation of renewal, and are not eligible for leave or other benefits.
