Director of Faculty Mentoring
The Center for Faculty Wellbeing and Development, a unit of the Office of the Provost at the University of Virginia, seeks a Director of Faculty Mentoring. The Center supports mentoring, leadership development, coaching, faculty search and promotion committees, faculty workload support, and faculty development programs. It serves as a hub for faculty and collaborates with various university offices.
The Director will report to the Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Development/Director of the Center for Faculty Wellbeing and Development. The role will lead, expand, and assess current mentoring programs, and collaborate with Deans, Associate Deans, and Department Chairs to develop evidence‑based mentoring programs for faculty across all ranks and disciplines.
Responsibilities- Direct the University Mentoring Program for new faculty in their first and second years ks include revising the curriculum, recruiting and training senior faculty mentors, recruiting junior faculty mentees, organizing mentoring groups, assessing the program annually, and tracking impact with alumni and mentors.
- Direct the Generating External Mentor Support Program for pre‑tenure faculty. Responsibilities include recruiting pre‑tenure faculty, supporting mentee external mentor recruitment, approving reimbursements for mentor meetings, and assessing program impact longitudinally.
- Outreach, collaboration, and consultation with Deans, Associate Deans, and Department Chairs to develop new mentoring programs, provide resources, consult on current programs, and train mentors and mentees in specific schools and departments, with the goal of creating a network of consistent best practices across the university.
- Collaborate with the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs to determine needs for faculty development in mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and provide resources and learning opportunities in partnership with UVA Acts.
- Education:
Bachelor's degree. - Experience:
At least five years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with at least two years of relevant experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Terminal degree in field.
- Experience in a faculty role.
- At least five years in faculty affairs and development, designing and leading faculty mentoring programs.
- Leadership experience collaborating across a complex institution of higher education.
Primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of a desktop computer. Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings and programs.
The anticipated hiring range is $80,000-$100,000, commensurate with education and experience.
This is an exempt-level, benefited position.
This position is restricted, dependent on funding availability.
The position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
