Department of Instruction

Full-time, 12 months/year

Albempale County Public Schools seeks a qualified professional to develop, implement, and assess curriculum, assessment, and instructional methods for the Division’s Health, Physical Education, and Athletics program. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Department of Professional Learning, coordinate with secondary schools’ athletics departments, and ensure alignment with state standards and the Virginia High School League regulations.

Essential Functions
  • Provide leadership in developing and implementing the Division’s curricula aligned with the mission, vision, and goals.
  • Coordinate between secondary schools’ athletics departments and monitor Virginia High School League changes, regulations, and ACPS compliance.
  • Develop formative and summative assessments in collaboration with teachers, students, and school leaders.
  • Collaborate with division and school staff to support curriculum integration and continuity of PreK‑12 core content areas, technology applications, and research and media skills.
  • Assist the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction in implementing, administering, and evaluating instructional programs of the school division.
  • Determine multiple student performance measures for program analysis to implement instruction improvement and intervention services.
  • Co‑teach in pre‑K‑12 classrooms to model best instructional practices, technology applications, and exemplary lesson planning.
  • Participate in at least one Professional Learning Community each school year and provide reflective coaching to teachers, groups, and principals, supporting the Framework for Quality Learning.
  • Direct the learning resource adoption process in the assigned area, advising on equitable selection of all learning resources.
  • Plan and facilitate regular division‑wide coach meetings, provide professional development for instructional coaches and the school division, and support the coaching cluster.
  • Prepare and present reports to the School Board and state agencies, and communicate with all stakeholders regarding the content area assigned.
  • Assist in the interview process for hiring teachers and provide principal support for teacher performance appraisals and performance planning.
  • Lead and support processes and programming for novice teachers, manage the Office of Instruction’s annual budget, and oversee grant opportunities.
  • Maintain a portion of the Office of Instruction’s web page and develop programs to support historically marginalized enrollment groups.
  • Adhere to division expectations and competencies in project management, team leadership, data collection and analysis, resource utilization, and school improvement planning.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by administration in accordance with school/system policies and practices.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of best practices in curriculum, assessment, and instruction.
  • Ability to use coaching techniques and questions when working with adults.
  • Knowledge of supervision skills and the Division’s three levers:
    Framework of Quality Instruction, Professional Learning Community, and Teacher Performance Appraisal.
  • Knowledge of recent changes, updates, and requirements of the VDOE related to career and technical education.
Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of instructional experience.
  • Eligibility for or possession of a Virginia Department of Education license in the applicable area; administrative endorsement preferred.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Position Type:
    Full-Time
  • Salary: $84,968 to $102,000 per year
