Full-time: 7.25 hrs/day, 10 months/year
Responsibilities include transporting students to work locations throughout the county. Applicants must have a valid VA driver’s license, no reckless driving or DUI convictions within five years, and no more than two moving violations within 12 months of employment. Satisfactory health conditions as certified by medical authority.
Essential Functions- Carries out instructional plans as designated by the classroom teacher and, if appropriate, the student's Individual Educational Plan (IEP).
- Carries out follow-up and review lessons.
- Develops and maintains a pleasant and orderly classroom environment.
- Assists teacher in maintaining appropriate classroom behavior and control.
- With teacher’s approval, carries out appropriate discipline of students.
- Procures, sets up, and operates audio-visual equipment.
- Assists students in completion of learning tasks assigned by classroom teachers.
- Assists teacher in related instructional activities (e.g., field trips, library, assembly).
- Assists in physical movement of students from one learning environment to another.
- Performs duties such as attendance recording and collection of lunch monies as directed by classroom teacher.
- Performs clerical duties such as typing, filing, and duplicating at direction of classroom teacher.
- Supervises students in lunchroom or during lunch period.
- Supervises students during free time and other non-instructional periods as directed by classroom teacher.
- Under supervision of classroom teacher and/or building principal, assists in maintenance of students' records.
- Assists with toileting, feeding, and positioning of students.
- Participates in team meetings.
- Assists with medical-related duties including catheterization, gastrointestinal feedings, assistive breathing devices, colostomy and ileostomy needs.
- Assists with carry over of related services such as Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech, Adapted Physical Education, and Vision.
- Performs other duties as assigned by classroom teacher or principal.
Understand and maintain an empathetic attitude toward disabled students; willingness to learn specialized instructional/management techniques; ability to communicate and develop effective relationships with students, parents, and staff. Must be a high school graduate or hold an equivalence of a high school diploma and be willing to seek and maintain CPR certification.
Education and ExperienceAny combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school including basic keyboard and filing training.
Physical Conditions and Nature of WorkTypical duties in school settings: classroom, gym, cafeteria, auditorium and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting up to 40 pounds; occasional field trips and movement of students by wheelchairs; lifting equipment up to 50 pounds; attendance at parent conferences and other meetings. Daily close contact with children and regular contact with staff, parents, and medical professionals.
EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
