The position is a full‑time, benefits‑eligible substitute teacher responsible for covering classroom teacher, specialist, or teaching assistant roles during the 2026-27 school year.
Essential Functions- Serve in the absence of the classroom teacher.
- Deliver the lesson plan created and left by the classroom teacher.
- Meet and instruct the students at the locations and times designated.
- Develop and maintain the physical environment of the classroom to support effective learning.
- Prepare for assigned classes and demonstrate preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor or absent teacher.
- Encourage students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain and uphold school and county policies and procedures.
- Maintain records as required by law, system policy, and administrative regulations.
- Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules and administrative regulations.
- Cooperate with other members of the staff.
- Provide information and seek clarity from school administration or designee regarding questions related to students, instruction, and other concerns.
- Establish and maintain cooperative professional relations with others.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with school/system policies and practices.
- Cover additional roles such as Office Assistant or support instruction with a classroom teacher as needed.
Ability to develop and maintain an empathetic attitude toward students; willingness to learn specialized instructional and management techniques; ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff; willingness to seek and maintain CPR certification.
Education and ExperienceCandidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Priority will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience or who are eligible for a Virginia Teaching License.
Physical Conditions and Nature of WorkDuties performed in school settings: classroom, gym, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting up to 40 pounds, occasional travel with students on field trips, and occasional lifting of equipment up to 50 pounds. Occasional attendance at parent conferences and meetings beyond normal assigned hours may be required.
EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
