This position participates in a structured internship experience through the Transformational Federal Work-Study (TFWS) Internship Program.

The Intern will be stationed at the center's front desk, sharing a wide variety of responsibilities, including:

  • Serving as a key link and establishing service-focused rapport and relationships with students, departmental staff, partner offices, and library patrons.
  • Delivering exceptional customer service to maintain a positive and professional reception environment, such as responding to walk-in inquiries (including questions about the library, the space, and academic/advising resources), and arranging spaces prior to reservations and assisting partner offices with their needs.
  • Assisting with the center's digital signage, survey design, and other duties related to programming and space management assigned by the Spaces Coordinator.
  • Assisting with events and programs such as the Majors Fair and the Advising Summit, hosted by the Georges Student Center and the Stellic team.
  • Assisting with Academic Support Programs (P2L, PAC, and MCLC) and coordinating with the Peer Coaches when they need assistance during their sessions.
  • Being familiar with emergency procedures and prepared to respond to potential emergencies.
  • Reporting or notifying Space Coordinator or Facilities Management of issues needing custodial and maintenance care.
  • Maintaining a high standard of professionalism and cleanliness at the center.
  • Acting as a "Manager on Duty" when no full-time staff is at the center.

  • Receive dedicated career support and acquire transferable work skills that are valuable after graduation.
  • Learn operational skills in Higher Education and business center administration
  • Strengthen your résumé with meaningful experiences.
  • Gain leadership experience and the opportunity to mentor new interns.
  • Learn with emphasis on integration, ethics, and real-world impact.
  • Enjoy flexible scheduling and the convenience of working on Grounds.
  • Meet new people and mentors to expand your university network.
  • Earn $13.00/hour, with opportunities for advancement.

Schedule & Hours

Applicants must be punctual, reliable, and able to work independently. Typical front desk hours are 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. on weekdays, with later openings on weekends. Preference is given to candidates who can work at least 10 hours in total anytime from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays (at least 3 hours per day) every week. There is a possibility of more hours during busy periods.

IPP Participation Requirement

In addition to the job duties and responsibilities outlined above, this position will participate in a structured internship experience through the Internship Placement Program (IPP). If selected, interns must enroll in either UNST 3910 (1 cr.) or UNST 3920 (1 cr.). The courses are offered 9+ times during the fall, offering plenty of options to choose from. Through this robust internship experience, students will receive dedicated career support from their supervisor and gain key skills and competencies that align with future job interests.

The FWS Internship will look great on your resume and provide the student with impactful stories to share in interviews. TFWS Internships are best suited for students in their 2nd – 4th years.
