Faculty Wage Instructor Assistant, Summer Design Institute (SDI)
The University of Virginia School of Architecture seeks qualified applicants to fill a Faculty Wage Instructor Assistant position to assist with the Summer Design Institute (SDI) courses in Summer 2026. The SDI has been developed to give incoming students the methods, theories, and techniques to be successful in design studios, for landscape architects, architects, and urban planners. Duties and responsibilities will be determined by Jeana Ripple, Chair of the Department of Architecture and will include:
- Preparatory coordination: approximately 40 hours of combined preparatory work the weeks of June 29 and July 6, including onsite preparation the week of July 6;
- Setup for orientation on Sunday, July 10;
- Approximately 40 hours of weekly work from July 13 - August 7 including office hours and student instruction
- Final exhibition preparation and installation
Time commitment and availability: 40 hrs per week for 4 weeks over summer 2026 with an additional 20 hours of prep work; the position runs from June 29 - August 8, with SDI occurring from July 13 - August
7. Successful candidates must hold a master's degree in a relevant field. Preferred skills:
- Teaching/SIA experience preferred
- Strong design skills across digital and physical media
This is a part-time, tenure-ineligible position which does not carry benefits.
