Teaching Assistant (Pre-K) - Greer Elementary School - 2026-27 School Year

Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $17.87 to $21.44 per hour
Job DescriptionTeaching Assistants will support classroom teachers in the management and instruction of pre‑K students. Duties include assisting with instructional activities, maintaining classroom order, and providing individualized support to students with special needs. The role requires a collaborative approach to create a positive learning environment and support the diverse needs of all students.
Essential Functions- Carry out instructional plans designated by the classroom teacher and the student’s Individual Educational Plan (IEP).
- Assist with follow‑up and review lessons.
- Develop and maintain a pleasant and orderly classroom environment, including instructional materials, bulletin board design, and clean‑up activities.
- Support the teacher in maintaining classroom behavior and control.
- With the teacher’s approval, administer discipline to students.
- Set up and operate audio‑visual equipment.
- Help students complete learning tasks assigned by the teacher.
- Assist with field trips, library visits, assemblies, and other instructional activities.
- Assist in physically moving students between learning environments.
- Record attendance and collect lunch monies as directed.
- Perform clerical duties such as typing, filing, and duplication.
- Supervise students in the lunchroom, during lunch, free time, and other non‑instructional periods.
- Assist with maintenance of student records under supervision.
- Assist with toileting, feeding, and positioning of students.
- Participate in team meetings.
- Perform medical related duties including catheterization, gastrointestinal feedings, assistive breathing devices, colostomy, and ileostomy needs.
- Assist with carry‑over of related services such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, adapted physical education, and vision services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Empathetic attitude toward students with disabilities.
- Willingness to learn specialized instructional or management techniques.
- Effective communication and relationship‑building with students, parents, and staff.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Willingness to obtain and maintain CPR certification.
- Equivalent to high school graduation, including basic keyboard and filing training.
- Frequent walking, standing, and light lifting up to 40 pounds.
- Occasional lifting of equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Field‑trip travel with students.
- Movement of students using wheelchairs or mechanical devices.
- Occasional attendance at parent conferences and meetings beyond normal hours.
- Daily close contact with students.
Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the responsibilities listed above.
