Job DescriptionSchool-based Substitute Teacher – Agnor Elementary School – 2026-27 School Year. Full-time, benefits‑eligible.
General Definition of WorkThe position will cover classroom teacher, specialist, or teaching assistant roles based on daily school needs. Additional responsibilities may include covering office assistants or supporting instruction alongside a classroom teacher.
Essential Functions- Serve in the absence of the classroom teacher.
- Deliver the lesson plan prepared by the classroom teacher.
- Meet and instruct students in the designated location and time.
- Maintain a physical environment conducive to learning within resource limits.
- Prepare for assigned classes and show evidence of preparation upon request.
- Encourage students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Uphold school and county policies and procedures.
- Maintain records required by law, system policy, and regulations.
- Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules and administrative regulations.
- Cooperate with other staff members.
- Provide information and seek clarity from school administration regarding questions related to students, instruction, and other concerns.
- Establish and maintain cooperative professional relations with others.
- Perform related duties assigned by the administration in accordance with school/system policies.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to develop and maintain an empathetic attitude toward students; willingness to learn specialized instructional/management techniques; effective communication and relationship building with students, parents, and staff; CPR certification is required.
Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent. Preference for candidates with prior teaching experience or eligibility for a Virginia Teaching License.
Physical Conditions and Nature of WorkWork typical of school settings: classroom, gym, cafeteria, auditorium, recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting up to 40 lb, occasional field‑trip travel, wheelchairs, loading equipment up to 50 lb, attendance at conferences and meetings beyond normal hours. Daily close contact with children for classroom management and learning environment support. Regular contact with staff, parents, and medical professionals.
EvaluationPerformance evaluated based on ability and effectiveness in carrying out responsibilities.

Salary: $17.39 to $20.70 per hour
