University Student Teacher Supervisor (USTS) - Charlottesville, VA (Staff Wage

The Teacher Education Program in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education at the School of Education and Human Development is seeking University Student Teacher Supervisors (USTS) with extensive teaching or supervision experience to provide supervision to student teachers in multiple teacher licensure programs in their clinical placements located in Charlottesville and Albemarle County-area public schools.

Responsibilities:

• Facilitate meetings with mentor teacher/student teacher pairs
• Conduct in‑person and video observation cycles with student teachers (three cycles in the fall semester and five cycles in the spring semester)
• Communicate student progress to the Teacher Education faculty and staff; all observations utilize a web‑based video observation tool to provide targeted feedback
• Maintain frequent email, text, and Zoom check‑ins with student teachers and use learning assessment and management systems
• Learn and utilize the web‑based observation tool, respond to inquiries within 24 hours, and maintain high‑speed internet access and devices with video streaming capability

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred
• At least three years of full‑time experience teaching PreK‑12 students in public schools
• Knowledge of current best practices in education and a current or previously held professional teaching license
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
• Preferred: five or more years of teaching experience, previous mentoring experience, and experience working with novice teachers
• Comfortable with frequent email, text, and Zoom check‑ins and proficiency with a range of technology platforms

Applicants in the Charlottesville City/Albemarle County area are preferred to minimize travel time and expenses.

Other expectations:

• Communicate regularly with academic program coordinators and seminar instructors of students, as well as the Teacher Education Office
• All initial meetings, initial observations, and final evaluation meetings are in‑person with other meetings held on Zoom
• Mileage reimbursement is provided for up to three meetings per semester
• Pay is $287 per student for coaching fall Internship I students and $575 per student for coaching spring Internship II students
• Attend a paid training day in the summer at UVA in Charlottesville, Virginia, and attend virtual follow‑up meetings during the year
• Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
• This is a wage position not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year
