About the Position
St. Anne's-Belfield School seeks to hire a full-time Assistant to the Director of the Early Childhood Program. Our Early Childhood Program offers a robust academic foundation paired with a strong emphasis on outdoor learning. This role assists the director in all aspects of work related to the Early Childhood Program, including performing administrative duties and working daily with children. The ideal candidate is organized, flexible, and capable of developing positive relationships with students and parents.
They demonstrate a clear understanding of professional behavior, possess a growth mindset, and adopt a collaborative approach to work. Under general supervision, this position reports to the Director of the Early Childhood Program, who reports to the Head of the Lower School. This is a 12‑month full‑time, hourly position with an immediate start date.
- Serves as a representative of the director when the director is not present.
- Works collaboratively with lead teachers, teaching assistants, and substitutes, to provide support as requested by the director.
- Regularly assists in classrooms, both outdoors and indoors.
- Serves as a substitute teacher when needed.
- Maintains relationships with parents and legal guardians of students to keep them informed of illness and to accept changes of dismissal, etc.
- Manages attendance and daily record keeping for students.
- Assists the director in purchasing and monitoring the expenses for budget needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Maintains student files for licensing: medications, authorizations, accommodations, etc.
- Assists the director with written communications, such as back‑to‑school communications and Belfield Bulletin.
- Prepares and organizes materials for ECP events (Orientation, Curriculum Night, Grandparent and Special Friends day, etc.) as determined by the director.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to administer emergency medications to the children as needed.
- Current understanding of culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Strong communication skills with colleagues and families using a variety of methods.
- Effectively uses technology to support director, faculty, and parents.
- Understanding of current best‑practices related to social‑emotional learning.
- Uses problem‑solving strategies in all aspects of the work.
- Command of confidentiality and tact.
- The ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
- Possesses a growth mindset and is open to new and innovative practices.
- Works collaboratively in a team environment.
- Flexible attitude and ability to switch gears as needed.
- An endorsement or Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in early childhood education.
- Previous experience working with young children, particularly toddlers.
- Knowledge of child development and age‑appropriate practices.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Ability to meet state licensing requirements including background checks.
Duties performed typically in school settings, including outdoor classrooms, indoor classrooms, recreational areas, and forest trails. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with other staff members and parents is required. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required. Frequent contact with parents is necessary.
