DescriptionThe University of Virginia Library seeks a dynamic, collegial, and highly-skilled professional to serve as the Librarian for Romance Languages . As a member of the Arts and Humanities team, the successful candidate will serve as the liaison to multiple departments and programs, including the Department of Spanish, Italian & Portuguese; the Department of French; the Latin American Studies Program ;
and other areas as a ppropriate . The Librarian for Romance Languages will also work with library colleagues to support non-English language scholarship and resources across UVA’s schools and departments.
Reporting to the Director of Research in the A r t s & Humanities, the Librarian for Romance Language s will provide communication and outreach to faculty, students, fellows, and community scholars, cultivating strong p art nerships and seeking opportunities for enhanced collaboration. They will provide research assistance to scholars at all levels and p art icipate in digital scholarship projects in collaboration with faculty, students, and library colleagues.
The Librarian will provide instruction in a variety of forms (course-related instruction, orientations, workshops, tutorials) and will engage with faculty to integrate information, digital, and data , and AI literacy concepts and skills into the curriculum . They will be responsible for working with the Collections Management team and the other liaisons to establish collection priorities for materials that support UVA’s foreign language and global studies programs , and will recommend specific purchases, maintain digital desiderata lists, and promote newly acquired resources.
The Librarian for Romance Languages will engage in creative thinking and research projects (both structured and unstructured) to promote innovations in librarianship. They will be expected to p art icipate in regional and/or national professional organizations related to academic librarianship and Romance language librarianship in particular .

QualificationsRequired Qualifications :
- A master's degree in library or information science ; OR a terminal degree in a field related to R o mance languages and literatures along with appropriate experience in an academic library.
- Strong academic background in Romance language s and literature s , Latin American Studies, or a simila r field appropriate to the position.
- Advanced proficiency in Spanish (reading, writing, speaking).
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and enthusiasm for the possibilities offered by academic librarianship as a profession.
- Willingness to explore and critically engage with emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, and maintain a current understanding of their impact on research and teaching.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational , and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative, team-based organization .
- Commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace and an ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Advanced proficiency in French, Italian , or Portuguese.
- Professional experience working in a liaison or subject specialist role in an academic library.
- Familiarity with scholarly publishing models and with open educational resources (OER).
