The Covenant School, an independent Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences school in Charlottesville, Virginia, is seeking a Library Information & Research Specialist to serve grades 6-12 beginning in the 2026-27 school year. Serving more than 750 students from Pre-K through Grade 12, our school is a gospel-centered community of faith and learning committed to the formation of the whole person through a rich and humane education.

Faculty at The Covenant School understand teaching as a Christian vocation. They take personal responsibility for students’ intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth and work together to cultivate a community of scholars in which students are known, challenged, and formed in habits of thought and character for lives of faithful service.

Position Overview

The Library Information & Research Specialist partners with faculty to cultivate a culture of reading, research, and intellectual curiosity within the Middle and Upper School. We are seeking a candidate who enjoys working with adolescents and who is committed to helping students grow as careful researchers, thoughtful readers, and lifelong learners. Through the stewardship of library collections, digital resources, research databases, and collaboration with faculty, the specialist helps students engage deeply with ideas while developing the habits and skills necessary to navigate an increasingly complex information landscape.

The Library Information & Research Specialist contributes to a welcoming and intellectually vibrant library environment that supports both independent inquiry and academic study. Working closely with teachers across disciplines, the specialist promotes literacy, strengthens research instruction, develops library collections and digital resources, and helps students develop habits of discernment in their use of information. This includes teaching and upholding the ethical use of information, including source evaluation, citation practices, intellectual honesty, and the responsible use of emerging technologies.

The Library Information & Research Specialist works closely with the Library Facilities Manager to ensure that the library functions both as an inviting place for study and as a dynamic center for teaching, learning, and research. This position is scheduled for approximately 30 hours per week.

In keeping with the school’s mission, the Library Information & Research Specialist integrates Christian faith naturally and thoughtfully into this work, helping students cultivate wisdom, curiosity, and a love of learning rooted in a Christian understanding of truth.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required;

  • Ability to maintain and develop the library’s digital resources and online presence
  • Ability to adapt programming, instruction, and library practices to meet the needs of students and the school community

We welcome candidates whose experiences and backgrounds enrich this shared work within a community shaped by a shared commitment to the school’s Christian mission and educational vision.
