Special Education Teacher:
Generalist for the 2026‑27 School Year in the Special Education Department.

• Provide direct instructional services using evidence‐based practices to students with disabilities based on their Individual Education Programs (IEPs).
• Assess student abilities and progress related to desired goals and IEP outcomes.
• Promote positive behavior and manage behavior across all instructional settings.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to assess program effectiveness, implement accommodations and modifications, coordinate curriculum, and evaluate academic progress.
• Participate in and/or chair eligibility, IEP, and triennial meetings.
• Plan, integrate, and utilize assistive technology for classroom instruction.
• Communicate accommodations to essential teachers and paraprofessionals before classes begin.
• Maintain regular communication with parents, responding to emails and phone calls promptly.
• Participate in staff, department, and school‑wide committee meetings/PLCs as required.
• Plan and supervise assignments for paraprofessionals and/or volunteers.
• Adhere to and apply federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing special education services.
• Perform additional duties assigned by administration in accordance with school/system policies.

Demonstrates proficiency in curriculum and instructional techniques for students with disabilities, behavioral supports, assessment, and treatment of behavioral disorders. Able to collaborate effectively with administrators, teachers, staff, parents, and community members. Strong human relations skills and working knowledge of written and verbal English.

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (required).
• Eligibility for a Virginia teaching certificate with endorsement in School Counseling.
• Master’s Degree preferred.

Work primarily in school settings (classroom, gym, cafeteria, etc.) with frequent personal contact with students, staff, and parents. Responsibilities may include speaking, hearing, standing, walking, reaching, lifting up to 50 pounds, and occasional interaction with medical professionals.
