The Department of Architecture at the University of Virginia School of Architecture ( arch.virginia.edu ) welcomes applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek candidates with a transformative vision for architecture, articulated through a portfolio of innovative architectural design, scholarship, and teaching. The successful applicant is expected to bring a strong pedagogical approach, the potential for design leadership within and beyond the discipline of architecture, a developing research agenda rooted in professional and/or academic practice, and a genuine interest in working and teaching across disciplinary boundaries.

The Department of Architecture’s mission is to educate and inspire the next generation of architectural leaders who understand our discipline as inseparable from the landscapes, cultures, environments, and histories in which we are situated. We actively encourage collaboration across the School of Architecture’s disciplines, including with the Departments of Landscape Architecture, Urban and Environmental Planning, and Architectural History, as well as with the larger university.

As a vital member of this vibrant community, the successful candidate will advance these aims through teaching, research, and collaboration with faculty and students.

This is a full‑time appointment, with the expectation that faculty will reside in Charlottesville and actively engage with faculty, staff, and students at the University. Successful candidates must hold a terminal degree in Architecture (MArch) or a comparable degree in a related design field (such as MLA, MUD, PHD). Tenure‑track faculty at UVA are expected to develop curriculum in collaboration with school leadership, serve on academic committees, support student success, and pursue an agenda of high‑profile research, scholarship, or creative production.

Candidates should show clear potential to develop a rigorous, design‑driven body of research and creative work over the course of their career didates will be expected to teach core architecture design studios and additional courses.

Founded in 1912 by 10 charter members, ACSA is an international association of architecture schools preparing future architects, designers, and change agents. Our membership includes all of the accredited professional degree programs in the United States and Canada, as well as international schools and 2‑ and 4‑year programs. Together ACSA schools represent some 7,000 faculty educating more than 40,000 students.
