Assistant Athletics Director of Financial Operations
The University of Virginia is a highly competitive Division I program committed to academic and athletic excellence. The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Athletics Director of Financial Operations. Reporting to the Deputy AD/CFO/COO, this role supports financial and budgetary needs of the Department and is a key member of the Athletics Business Office.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Lead Athletics operational financial management, ensuring alignment with departmental goals
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, annual audit, and annual reporting (NCAA and EADA)
- Assist COO/CFO with annual budget formation, development, and implementation
- Collaborate with COO/CFO on long-term financial planning and strategic initiatives
- Partner with Central Finance to ensure accuracy in Athletics financial accounting
- Manage capital projects financial tracking
- Oversee financial reconciliations and maintain alignment with third party vendors
- Provide complex analytical support and financial management expertise
- Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
- Ability to analyze and interpret data, processes, and systems to derive meaningful insights for decision‑making
- Strong problem‑solving and creative thinking skills
- Show professionalism and poise when interacting with a broad range of constituencies including coaches, staff, University administrators, and third parties
- Maintain attention to detail, meeting deadlines, multi‑tasking, and prioritizing competing demands amid a rapidly changing environment
- Clear ability to maintain confidentiality
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Five years of experience in a financial discipline
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Prior business office experience in higher education or athletics
- Understanding of NCAA‑related policies and financial reporting
- Experience with Workday or similar ERP system
- Experience developing, analyzing, and executing complex budgets and long‑range business/fiscal management plans
- Supervisory experience
The salary range is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a sedentary position primarily involving use of a desktop computer, with occasional travel to attend meetings and programs. The position is located on the UVA Grounds in Charlottesville, VA, and is an exempt‑level, benefited role.
