Company Overview Every firm has a culture – the values, beliefs, methodology, attitudes and standards that reflect an organization’s DNA. But the truly inspiring firms – the game-changers, the industry leaders and the disruptors – have cultures that propel them to innovate and stand out. At Brown Advisory, we aim to be one of those inspired firms. Over the years, we have purposefully built and nurtured our client-first culture.

Brown Advisory is an independent investment management and strategic advisory firm committed to delivering a combination of first-class performance, strategic advice and the highest level of client service. The firm’s clients—including individuals, families, family offices, endowments, foundations, charities, institutions, consultants, and financial intermediaries—are served by over 1,000 colleagues worldwide, all of whom are equity owners of the firm.

Brown Advisory’s Charlottesville office is seeking a proactive and professional individual to serve as a Portfolio Analyst. Due to the complex nature of clients’ investment objectives and related service needs, Portfolio Analysts must be well versed in a broad range of investment disciplines and strategies. The position requires a high level of sophistication and flexibility in understanding and implementing diverse investment strategies.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Participate in portfolio management for balanced, multi‑asset portfolios tailored to each client’s objectives, including managing liquidity needs and analyzing equity, fixed income, and alternative investment exposures.

Serve as the pod’s execution engine by ensuring data accuracy, timely trade execution, cash movements, and overall operational excellence in a fast‑paced investment environment. The role combines hands‑on portfolio implementation with analytical work across public, private, and alternative investments.

Work within small, collaborative teams to design and implement customized investment strategies for multigenerational families and endowment and foundation clients. Responsibilities include supporting long‑term asset allocation development, evaluating approved investment vehicles, monitoring multi‑asset exposures, and enhancing the investment lineup.

Produce high‑quality client materials such as investment analysis, performance reporting, attribution, risk assessments, and asset allocation updates. Monitor cash levels to support distributions, liquidity needs, and capital calls. Over time, take on increased autonomy and participate in client meetings and relationship‑building efforts.

Balance independent ownership with collaborative problem‑solving, contributing to broader initiatives that improve portfolio construction methods and advance analytical and technological capabilities.

Provide portfolio managers with the information and system support needed for daily decision‑making.

Develop investment strategies in coordination with the Portfolio Management team and Investment Solutions Group.

Assist in managing client relationships, including communication, trading, and coordination across Portfolio Managers, Strategic Advisors, Client Service, and Marketing.

Demonstrate curiosity and a continuous improvement mindset by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, improve efficiency, and thoughtfully leverage new technologies and tools, including AI-enabled productivity solutions.

Qualifications:

Successful candidates are driven to proactively support the Portfolio Manager(s) with whom they are teamed. They possess exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, are able to operate independently with a high level of direct responsibility, maintain strong ties to the various investment teams at the firm and participate actively in the analysis of new strategies.
