The University of Virginia (UVA) seeks a dynamic and highly skilled Senior Manager
- Debt Portfolio & Internal Bank. Reporting to the Managing Director of Treasury, this individual serves as the institution's hands-on modeling, analytics, and reporting expert for UVA's debt portfolio and Internal Bank, spanning the Academic Division, Medical Center, and UVA Wise. The role also extends across UVA's Foundations (University-Affiliated Organizations, or UAOs)-a significant number of which consolidate into the University's financial statements and rating-agency credit profile-and requires the Senior Manager to build and maintain working relationships with the financial leaders of these organizations, whose debt and cash positions directly impact the consolidated Financial Statements.

This is a builder's role for a technically exceptional financial modeler who is equally at home constructing multi-decade quantitative models and translating their results into a clear, compelling narratives and decks for executive leadership, Deans, and unit finance staff. The Senior Manager owns the modeling of the University's Internal Bank-including its long-dated, 100-year debt portfolio horizon-serves as the primary liaison to UVA's Financial Advisors on that modeling, and functions as the institution's subject-matter expert in Debtbook and related debt-management systems.

The ideal candidate pairs expert Excel and PowerPoint skills, and the disciplined use of AI to work efficiently with large data sets, with the personable, credible communication style needed to engage the full spectrum of University stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, data analytics, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in debt capital markets, financial modeling, treasury, or financial advisory- work at a municipal issuer, investment bank, rating agency, or financial advisory firm.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Excel financial modeling, including large, complex, well-controlled workbooks.
  • Expert-level proficiency in PowerPoint, with a demonstrated ability to turn complex financial data into clear, story-driven executive presentations.
  • Demonstrated use of AI-enabled tools and techniques to work efficiently with large data sets.
  • Strong understanding of municipal bond structuring, credit fundamentals, and tax-exempt financing regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the poise to engage credibly with Deans, executive leadership, and unit finance staff alike.

This position is based in Central Virginia (Charlottesville) and is primarily an on-site position. Consideration for "local hybrid" after full onboarding (minimum of 6 months). This position will remain open until filled. This is an exempt level, benefited position. The University will perform background checks on all hires (if required) prior to employment.
