Position: CLINICIAN I/II/ III, ACT EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST- CHARLOTTESVILLE (FULL-TIME)

Overview

General Statement Of Responsibilities
This is an FLSA non-exempt position in which the incumbent serves as the Employment Specialist Clinician at the ACT Region Ten program for adults with serious mental illnesses. The Employment Specialist plays a key role in assisting individuals with serious mental illness in obtaining, maintaining, and advancing in suitable employment, often focusing on barriers to employment. The incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing self-care skills training programs concerning individual consumers (health and safety, personal care, activities of daily living, use of community resources).

The incumbent will also assist consumers with medication management, monitor health, nutrition, and physical condition, provide assistance with personal care, ADLs, and use of community resources. He/she is expected to attend team meetings, other professional meetings, and represent the program to the community as needed.

The incumbent reports to the Director and/or Program Manager for the schedule and assignment of work duties. He/she is monitored, trained, and supervised by the Director and Program Manager in the performance of his/her tasks. He/she is expected to perform duties as specified and according to the policies of the Region Ten Community Services Board, as well as those of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.

Major

Duties
  • Assessing needs and planning services, evaluating individual strengths and needs, evaluating the appropriateness of and need for various community mental health services, developing individual service plans, and monitoring and evaluating client status.
  • Training in or reinforcement of functional skills and appropriate behavior related to consumers’ health and safety, activities of daily living, and use of community resources.
  • Assisting with medication education, illness education, and medication management.
  • Monitoring of consumers  health, nutrition, and physical health care conditions.
  • Working collaboratively with consumers' care managers and other care providers.
  • Linking the individual directly to services and supports specified in the individual service plan.
  • Assisting the individual directly to locate, obtain, and effectively use community resources, including educating and monitoring information and support to family members, and providing or arranging for transportation for individuals or their family members to access services.
  • Enhancing community adjustment and integration by developing services or supports which increase opportunities for community access and involvement, including developing community living skills, civic and recreational services.
  • Making collateral contacts with the individual's significant others (e.g., parents, friends, and siblings) to promote implementation of the service plan and optimal community adjustment.
  • Maintaining necessary casework records to document the provision of Mental Health Skill Building and/or ACT Services for Medicaid reimbursement.
  • Attending in-service training and staff development programs to enhance mental health services.
  • Attend TMACT and other vocational meetings/trainings as requested.
  • Acquires and maintains valid certification in First Aid, CPR, medication administration, non-aversive behavior management, and defensive driving to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the program.
  • Read all agency communication (i.e., Ten, Region Ten's newsletter, e-mail, etc.).
  • Performs other duties as assigned related to program requirements and the provision of Mental Health Support Services.
Qualifications

Education

  • Clin I
    - Bachelor’s Degree required. A Bachelor’s Degree in a human services field is preferred.
  • Clin II
    - Master’s Degree required. Candidates must be eligible to seek licensure for LPC, LCP, or LCSW through the Virginia Department of Health Professions and do so within 6 months of the date of hire.
  • Clin III
    - Master s Degree and licensed through the Virginia Department of Health Professions.

Experience

  • Experience of working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness is preferred.
