The Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia is seeking candidates for a full-time (Assistant Professor) clinical psychologist to provide behavioral health care in both inpatient and outpatient settings within UVA Health. This position offers the opportunity to join a strong and dynamic psychology faculty at UVA, with meaningful involvement in integrated care, program development, and flexible clinical work across diverse settings and populations.
Salary and tenure status are dependent upon qualifications and experience. Primary responsibilities will include providing inpatient and outpatient, empirically-based health psychology services (e.g., diagnostic assessment and intervention) to individuals with a wide variety of medical diagnoses and co-occurring mental health concerns. In addition, approximately 50% of the psychologist’s time will be spent developing behavioral interventions for patients on the adult inpatient psychiatric unit.
As an academic medical center, participation in teaching and scholarly activities is an opportunity and expectation of the position and designated administrative time is provided.
- Inpatient Psychiatric Unit
- Development and implementation of behavioral management plans
- Coordination of care with other entities/agencies
- Conduct staff training on de-escalation, behavioral observations, and implementation of behavioral management plans
- Participate in care coordination and discharge planning with other team members
- Develop and implement evidence-based group therapy
- Other psychological services, to be determined and as needed
- Outpatient Services
- Provide psychological evaluation and interventions for UVA Health House staff (residents and fellows in training)
- Provide psychological evaluation and interventions for patients with primary medical conditions and co-occurring mental health issues through the UVA Behavioral Medicine Center
- Other psychological services, to be determined and as needed, provided to other departments and centers with in the health system
Candidates must have a PhD/PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program. Preference will be given to those with advanced training and experience in clinical health psychology and providing evidence-based behavioral interventions. Candidates must be license-eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia and must be licensed by date of hire. Candidates must also be board certified or eligible for board certification from the American Board of Professional Psychology.
Board certification is a requirement for clinical privileges within UVA Health, and individuals are expected to obtain board certification after hire, typically within 3 years.
