The Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia is seeking candidates for a full-time (Assistant Professor) clinical psychologist to provide behavioral health care in both inpatient and outpatient settings within UVA Health. This position offers the opportunity to join a strong and dynamic psychology faculty at UVA, with meaningful involvement in integrated care, program development, and flexible clinical work across diverse settings and populations.
Salary and tenure status are dependent upon qualifications and experience. Primary responsibilities will include providing inpatient and outpatient, empirically-based health psychology services (e.g., diagnostic assessment and intervention) to individuals with a wide variety of medical diagnoses and co-occurring mental health concerns. As an academic medical center, participation in teaching and scholarly activities is an opportunity and expectation of the position and designated administrative time is provided.
- Provide psychological services within the Ehlers-Danlos Clinic based on a Stepped Care Model (20% time; outpatient):
- Conduct psychological screenings of new patients for depression, anxiety, PTSD, pain, and quality of life to determine referral for psychological evaluation
- Develop and provide psychological group therapy with focus on coping with/adjustment to chronic illness and chronic pain
- Provide individual therapy
- Depending on applicant experience and interests, the position may include provision of the following psychological services:
- Psychological evaluations and evidenced based psychological intervention for bariatric surgery candidates as part of multidisciplinary weight reduction surgery program (primarily outpatient)
- Individual and group psychotherapy for patients receiving care in the Emily Couric Cancer Center (inpatient and outpatient)
- Psychological evaluations and evidence-based psychological interventions for organ transplant candidates (inpatient and outpatient)
- Evidence-based psychological interventions for patients with co-occurring medical and mental health diagnoses in the Behavioral Medicine Center (outpatient).
