About the DepartmentThe UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of just 57 in the nation to hold that designation by the National Cancer Institute, and the first in Virginia. At the Emily Couric Clinic Cancer Center Infusion Pharmacy, our pharmacy technicians are essential to the safe, accurate, and patient‑centered preparation of intravenous (IV) chemotherapy and specialty infusion therapies.
What We DoPharmacy Technicians in this department:
- Compound IV sterile medications using aseptic technique in accordance with USP 797, USP 800, and other established practices and policies
- Support clinical workflows and medication safety protocols
- Collaborate with pharmacists to ensure accuracy and efficiency
- Document all assigned safety and quality activities in compliance with department procedures
- Be part of a high‑impact pharmacy team
- Play a critical role in providing lifesaving cancer therapy to patients
- Grow your skills in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment
- Education:
High School Graduate or equivalent required. - Experience:
6 months minimum relevant experience required. Prior experience in sterile compounding environments preferred. - Licensure/
Certifications:
Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration required. CPhT credential through National Health career Association (NHA) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required.
Physical Demands – Job requires standing for prolonged periods. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull less than 20 lbs.
Onboarding RequirementsBackground checks and pre‑employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety‑sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.
The starting base rate for this role is $20.68 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
