The team, consisting of the Registered Nurse (RN), the Paramedic, the Patient Care Associate, the Patient Services Associate (PSA), and the Unit Clerical Associate, provides patient care and supportive services that are directed toward the achievement of patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient's involvement in his/her own plan of care, improving services levels, reducing the length of hospitalization and decreasing costs.

Patients and their families will experience the benefits of patient-focused care through the integrated skills of all care team members.

• The paramedic is responsible for providing a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities as supervised and directed by the RN. Care is provided in collaboration and under the guidance of the ED attending physician and in conjunction with the nurses in the ED with the patient, family, and other members of the patient-focused care team. Overall responsibilities are to assist the team in meeting patient care needs.
