Job Details:

• Work day shifts in a 12-bed neuroscience stepdown unit utilizing critical care principles at intermediate level

• 13-week assignment with every other weekend and every other holiday required

• Patient ratio of 1:3 (3 patients maximum)

• 24 hours of orientation provided

• Up to 40 hours of time off can be approved during contract

• Must adhere to facility float policy within scope of practice

• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale

• Epic charting system experience required

• Virginia nursing license required (can submit with pending license)

• Minimum 2 years of experience required

• BSN preferred

• Care for patients transferring from Neuro ICU with conditions including neuro trauma, hemorrhages, ENT cancer patients, post-operative spine patients, and various neurological disorders

• Provide care for adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients

• Work with specialized equipment and procedures including arterial lines, lumbar drains, feeding tubes, insulin drips, and various monitoring devices

• Flu vaccine required with no exemptions

• References required for submission

Facility:

This academic medical center operates a specialized 12-bed neuroscience stepdown unit that bridges the gap between intensive care and general medical floors. The facility provides comprehensive neurological care with interdisciplinary support including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams. The unit maintains a daily census of approximately 10 patients and offers advanced care for complex neurological conditions including neurosurgery, trauma, stroke, and spinal cord injuries.
