Comprehensive Emergency ServicesUVA Health's Emergency Department is a 75-bed Level 1 Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center. As a regional referral center, the UVA ED sees patients from throughout Virginia, West Virginia, and Tennessee. This department cares for complex patients across all age groups. Treatment includes burns, broken bones, acute illnesses, and pain not responsive to over-the-counter medicine.

Minimum Qualifications- Education:
High School Graduate or Equivalent - Experience:
No experience required - Licensure:
American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS Certification required. For non‑certified team members hired prior to May 11, 2026, certification is not required, as relevant experience will be accepted. - Must have one of the following:
- Certified Nursing Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Emergency Medical Technician in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Military Corpsmen/Medic (Combat Medic Specialist / Tactical Combat Casualty Care / Tactical Paramedic) NREMT certification or Tactical Responder Certification
- LPN license in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Graduate of a certified nursing program
- Patient Care Technician Certification, preferred National Center of Competency Testing
- Currently enrolled student nurses who have successfully completed the Clinical Experience and Didactic
- Education:
High School Graduate or Equivalent - Experience:
No experience required - Licensure/
Certifications:
State Certified as one of the following: EMT-B, EMT-C, EMT-ST, or EMT-P. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull > 100 lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, humidity, cold, heat, radiation, outdoor climate, blood/body fluids, infectious disease, noise and dust.
Onboarding RequirementsBackground checks and pre‑employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety‑sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.
The starting base rate for this role is $16.37 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
