Anesthesia Technician

Build a hands-on healthcare career at the center of complex surgical care. As an Anesthesia Technician, you will help anesthesia providers maintain safe, prepared, and efficient patient care environments across UVA Health’s operating rooms and procedural areas.

This full-time, on-site opportunity offers paid, structured training with no previous anesthesia experience required. You will develop practical knowledge of anesthesia technology while supporting cases across transplant, cardiac, obstetric, trauma, endoscopy, and IMRIS/MRI services.

Anesthesia Technicians are essential members of the perioperative team. You will prepare anesthesia machines, equipment, supplies, and procedure spaces so providers can focus on delivering safe, timely care. The work is active, technical, and fast-paced, with opportunities to contribute during routine procedures as well as urgent and high-acuity situations.

You will begin with foundational responsibilities and progressively build your capabilities through hands‑on training, mentorship, and exposure to increasingly complex services.

• Setting up and completing checks of anesthesia machines before scheduled procedures
• Preparing operating rooms and procedural spaces with airway, monitoring, and specialty equipment
• Supporting video and direct laryngoscopy equipment, invasive monitoring setups, rapid infusers, TEE probes, and autotransfusion or cell saver systems
• Turning over rooms efficiently between cases and restoring supplies to established levels
• Responding to provider requests for airway assistance, equipment, invasive line setups, or emergency support
• Troubleshooting equipment concerns and communicating needs promptly to the appropriate team members
• Cleaning, returning, and organizing equipment to ensure readiness throughout the shift
• Preparing rooms and supplies for the next shift and providing a clear handoff of outstanding needs

Success in this role requires reliability, attention to detail, mechanical curiosity, clear communication, and the ability to stay composed when priorities change quickly. You should be comfortable performing physical work, moving equipment, remaining on your feet for much of the shift, and working around blood and body fluids.

The position is full-time and on-site, with schedules based on the available opening. Call and weekend coverage are not initially required. After completing orientation and cross‑training across services, team members are expected to participate in call and weekend rotations.
