Bar Manager

The Jefferson Theater is seeking an experienced and organized Bar Manager to join our team. This is a part-time position that combines daytime administrative bar management with hands-on bartending and night-of-show leadership. The position heavily revolves around our show and events schedule. This role oversees inventory, ordering, cash handling, POS support, and nightly reconciliation while maintaining excellent guest-facing service behind the bar.

• Conduct monthly full bar inventory
• Place weekly beverage and supply orders and maintain pars
• Research, source, and cost new beverage products prior to implementation
• Maintain strong working relationships with beverage vendors and sales reps
• Receive and verify beverage deliveries during scheduled weekday daytime hours
• Organize, file, and maintain beverage invoices and records to ensure compliance with Virginia ABC regulations
• Train and supervise bartenders and bar support staff
• Organize storage and maintain clean, efficient bar spaces
• Go to bank for deposits and change orders
• Maintain inventory sheets, ordering logs, and cost tracking
• Update pricing and menu changes as needed
• Ensure pricing accuracy in POS
• Review voids, comps, and discounts for accuracy
• Review weekly all staff and comped drinks during each shift to monitor usage, maintain accountability, and help control inventory and costs
• Monitor labor, sales, and beverage costs
• Conduct weekly review of tip-out reconciliation to ensure accuracy and proper distribution
• Assist GM with basic POS troubleshooting and system support
• Coordinate with GM to plan and execute bar setups and special beverage requests for private events
• Provide feedback to GM on bartender performance and development

• Serve as Bar Manager on Duty on assigned shifts and bartend
• Ensure proper bar setup and breakdown
• Oversee bartending staff and troubleshoot service issues
• Record all staff and comped drinks during each shift
• Reconcile bar sales, cash, and credit tips nightly
• Ensure accurate tip pooling and distribution
• Include band merchandise payouts with nightly deposit paperwork
• Secure cash, deposits, and all nightly paperwork
• Collaborate with internal teams to support smooth, high-volume service execution

• Previous bartending experience required
• Bar management or lead bartender experience strongly preferred
• Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills
• Reliable, detail-oriented, and self-motivated
• Comfortable handling cash and reconciliation
• Experience with POS systems
• Solid understanding of beverage inventory, ordering, and cost control
• Ability to work nights and weekends as needed
