The University of Virginia has an exciting opportunity available for a forward-thinking candidate to join the HR Business Partner (HRBP) team with UVA HR and support the academic division. HR Business Partners play a critical role in advancing the vision and strategic priorities of their assigned school, unit, or organization. By effectively leveraging the university's resources, applying creative problem solving skills, and actively collaborating with colleagues across the institution, they deliver thoughtful, strategic HR guidance to a diverse community of faculty, staff, and leaders.
In this role, the HR Business Partner applies deep expertise in human resources strategies, practices, and policies while also maintaining a strong understanding of the business unit's financial landscape, organizational culture, employee engagement, academic mission, and operational goals. This blend of HR knowledge and business acumen enables the incumbent to provide informed, proactive support that aligns people strategies with organizational objectives and drives a positive, inclusive, and high-performing work environment.
This position supports schools and units within a complex academic environment and works closely with leaders to provide consultative HR guidance aligned with UVA policy and institutional priorities.
- Serve as a mission-driven HR professional that represents, orchestrates, and manages HR experience and services for their assigned stakeholders.
- Combine leading expertise and engagement with university leaders to offer creative problem solving, exchange of ideas, advisory support, and alignment of local needs with the institutional mission.
- Act as a people-focused partner that collaborates with schools and units in support of their daily operations and business models, engaging UVA HR to deliver and enhance the HR service and experience of stakeholder group.
- Use innovative practices to think creatively, challenge the status quo and push the boundaries of the HR professional by challenging both partner groups and colleagues to think differently, act creatively, and collaborate.
- A Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
- Five years relevant progressive experience is required for the HR Business Partner.
- Eight years relevant progressive experience is required for the Senior HR Business Partner.
- SHRM/HRCI certification is preferred.
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
This position will be hired at the HRBP or Sr. HRBP level based on candidate experience.
