The Department of Genome Sciences at the University of Virginia (UVA) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the broad areas of biostatistics, data science, and AI. This position focuses on developing and applying novel statistical methods, machine learning approaches, and AI‑driven computational tools, with a strong emphasis on statistical genetics and genomics. The work will be closely linked to applications in cancer and autism research.
The fellow will work under the supervision of Dr. Ziqiao Wang and will have opportunities to collaborate with the School of Data Science, the Department of Statistics, and the UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Current research directions include multi‑omics data integration, polygenic risk score analysis, modeling of gene–environment interactions, and Mendelian randomization studies for causal inference. ResponsibilitiesDevelop and apply novel statistical methods and machine learning models, with a focus on statistical genetics and genomics. Work closely with collaborators on cancer and autism studies, contributing to data analysis, model development, and publication of results.
Minimum Qualifications- Doctoral degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or a related quantitative field.
- Proficiency in statistical computing (e.g., R, Python).
- Strong quantitative skills in statistical methods and machine learning, ability to manage large datasets, and experience with large‑scale datasets such as UK Biobank, All of Us, ARIC, TCGA.
- Collaborative mindset and commitment to impactful research.
This is primarily a sedentary role involving extensive use of desktop computers. The position may require occasional travel to attend meetings.
