Overview

Jefferson-Madison Regional Library is seeking candidates for a Branch Manager position at the Gordon Avenue Library. The selected candidate will be highly motivated and support JMRL's mission to foster personal growth and lifelong learning by connecting people with ideas, information, and each other.

The preferred starting salary for this position is $24.35 hourly ($50,648.00 annually). Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. This is a full-time, exempt position which provides benefits including 13 paid holidays, plus paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, City retirement options, gym membership reimbursement, and continuing education/training opportunities.

This position performs responsible professional and managerial work overseeing and participating in all library operations at the Gordon Avenue Library, a Small Branch of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library (JMRL). A Small Branch is defined as a library where the manager is responsible for the full-time equivalent of less than 8 employees. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Library Director.

Duties may vary based on assigned branch:

  • Supervises and participates in daily operations of the assigned branch.
  • Directly supervises, directs, schedules, and evaluates assigned staff. Hires, trains, and evaluates staff, coordinates and monitors work activities, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise. Makes suggestions for staffing level needs to library administration.
  • Recruits, trains, and schedules volunteers.
  • Oversees branch outreach services to the local community.
  • Plans, prepares, presents, and reports results of educational and recreational programming for all ages, both internally and with external partners.
  • Provides services at circulation desk, checking in/checking out library materials, creating library cards, fulfilling requests for items on reserve, and routing items to other branches. Assists patrons with fax, printing, copying and computer needs.
  • Manages cash flow by counting cash register and preparing bank deposits.
  • Provides reader’s advisory and reference services, and other assistance to patrons in use of the library. Conducts reference interviews to interpret questions and identify the appropriate response.
  • Resolves non-routine patron interactions by communicating and interpreting library policy for staff and the general public.
  • Manages and maintains the branch collection. Identifies gaps, makes suggestions for collection, and monitors consistency/accuracy in collection. Participates in weeding of materials based on lack of use, inaccuracy, or physical condition.
