Job Summary

The Brewer Trainee is based at our main production facility. This individual will have an opportunity to work in the brewery and gain practical hands‑on experience while learning the technical side of brewing. The Brewer Trainee is expected to be punctual, self‑motivated, and have strong attention to detail.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Learn brewing techniques from the brew team.
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of essential safety procedures within the brewery.
  • Attain strong comprehension of the brewing process, from raw materials to packaging to testing final product.
  • Gain an understanding of the techniques that can be used to improve brewery productivity and efficiency.
  • To check the quality of samples, temperate of water, and to make adjustments to the brewing process.
  • To accurately record data relating to the production processes.
  • Help with a variety of tasks in the brewery, cellar and packaging departments.
  • Learn all Three Notch’d internal quality standards.
  • Follow all safety procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervising

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Required Qualifications
  • A passion for brewing beer
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and meet deadlines
  • A strong understanding of the science relating to the brewing industry (chemistry, physics)
  • The ability to apply scientific principles to the beer‑making process
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a team
  • A good working knowledge of technological development within the brewing industry
  • Strong attention to detail and record keeping ability
  • Analytical and decision making skills
  • High school diploma.
  • Must be 21‑years of age.
  • We have recently moved to a 6‑day, 24 hour brewing cycle. Shifts rotate every two weeks and pay differential is offered for later shifts.
Desired Qualifications
  • Some homebrewing experience
  • Experience working in laboratories
  • Experience working in a production facility
  • Ability to work in extreme cold, extreme heat, temperature changes.
  • Occasional exposure to wet conditions.
Equipment Used
  • Stainless steel, 2‑vessel 20bbl system manufactured by Metalcraft Fabrications, Portland OR
  • Malt Silo, Grist Mill, Grist Hopper, 60bbl Hot Liquor Tank, Mashtun, Kettle, various centrifugal pumps, and whirlpool.
  • Pallet jacks, manual and electric.
