Assistant Director, Marketing and Communications
Job SummaryPiedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) seeks an Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications (Mar Com) to support integrated marketing and communications projects related to its strategic plan and College-wide Mar Com efforts. The Assistant Director will advance the institution’s brand, visibility, and strategic priorities through the development and execution of integrated marketing and communications initiatives. This position combines strategic planning, content development, and project management to support institutional goals, drive audience engagement, and ensure consistent, high‑quality messaging across platforms.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Manage multiple projects efficiently in a fast‑paced environment with fluctuating and competing priorities.
- Represent the Mar Com team in the absence of the Executive Director.
- Adhere to PVCC brand, style, and accessibility guidelines; demonstrate accuracy, attention to detail, and a service‑oriented approach.
- Contribute to messaging and communications for target audiences—including current students, prospective students, adult learners, the general community, and program areas across the College.
- Plan, organize, and manage time effectively for collaborative, customer‑based services involving multiple stakeholders.
- Write and edit with high‑level communication skills (verbal and written); apply AP Style and accessibility regulations.
- Manage collaborative services and maintain relationships with stakeholders; use Office 365 suite, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, One Drive, and Adobe Suite.
- Apply knowledge of ADA Title II/III, Section 504, and WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards; learn how they apply in higher education.
- Improve and build processes and tools to enhance personal and team efficiency and effectiveness.
- Indirectly manage other team members while collaborating on projects; represent the Marketing and Communications Office in the Executive Director’s absence.
- 35% – Developing and implementing strategic marketing and communication campaigns for key initiatives across the College (analysis, reporting, integrated campaign messaging, and design of accessible files).
- 30% – Program/department‑specific campaigns and communication planning with the Executive Director (areas of study marketing, Workforce Development, new program launches, and degree program strategic initiatives).
- 25% – General marketing and communication support (assisting the Executive Director, content development, project requests, and reports).
- 10% – Special projects and initiatives, including department or school‑wide requests and system‑wide initiatives.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
- May be required to assist the agency or state government during emergency declarations by the Governor.
- Experience in marketing, communications, or public relations.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data from multiple sources to inform strategic decision‑making.
- Proven experience applying marketing, public relations, and/or communications strategies within a higher education or complex environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities efficiently and simultaneously.
- Professional presence with a commitment to delivering exceptional internal and external customer service.
- Ability to take direction while independently managing and executing projects from concept to completion.
- Experience collaborating effectively as part of a team in a dynamic, multi‑functional environment.
- Excellent written communication skills; ability to develop content across various platforms and clearly articulate ideas, strategies, and plans.
- Knowledge of branding principles and maintaining brand consistency across multiple channels.
- Ability to interpret and report on campaign performance metrics, focusing on continuous improvement and ROI.
