Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Sustainability Student Employee (Student Wage)

Sustainability Student Employees (SSEs) are committed to making sustainability an integral part of the UVA community. The student employees work in six teams to address key areas of sustainability: climate & community, waste minimization, green living, outreach, green athletics, and service learning. Through various events and programs, the student employees coordinate and communicate the University’s sustainability efforts to their peers and the larger UVA community.

Student employees will work within the Office for Sustainability’s Outreach and Engagement team.

Sustainability Student Employees can expect to play a leadership role in organizing various sustainability initiatives including UVA Green Games, Earth Month, Hoo's Reuse and more. SSEs will also play a heavy role in monitoring/supporting sustainability student groups such as the Sustainability Advocates, Green Dorm Ambassadors, and Zero Waste Ambassadors.

Participants will gain professional skills in project management, event planning, communications, leadership, data analytics, and more. Given the advocacy nature of this position, SSE candidates should feel comfortable engaging with individuals across Grounds. Ideal candidates will be responsible time managers with a passion for sustainability outreach and leadership. Please use a cover letter to describe how you would be a good fit for this program and indicate which topic area (climate & community, waste minimization, green living, outreach, green living or service learning) interests you the most.

If you are selected for an interview, the selection team will walk you through open positions on each of the six teams.

Please note that incomplete applications – ones that don’t have both a cover letter and resume – will not be considered. The application will close at 11:59pm on Tuesday, March 31. Late applications will not be considered.

Several positions will become open for the next academic year (August to May), with a minimum of five working hours per week and a maximum of fifteen working hours per week. The position pays $15 per hour. In addition, a required, weekly one-hour meeting will be scheduled during normal business hours.
