Overview
UVA Health is seeking an experienced and dedicated Advanced Practice Provider, Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Associate (PA) to join its Cardiothoracic Surgery Intensive Care Unit (TCV ICU). As a member of our dynamic, collaborative, multidisciplinary team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional critical care to our postoperative cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery patients.
Responsibilities- Participate in full spectrum of postoperative critical care management for cardiac, thoracic, and vascular patient population including accepting new OR admissions, hospital transfers, and urgent acute transfers; coordinating discharges and transfers.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients admitted to the TCV ICU who have undergone cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeries, including heart and lung transplantation, ECMO and other mechanical circulatory support devices.
- Develop and implement evidence-based care plans tailored to each patient's needs, ensuring optimal outcomes and patient safety.
- Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies, evaluate patient responses, and adjust the plan of care based on ongoing objective and subjective data collection.
- Perform a wide range of interventions and procedures within the scope of advanced practice, including but not limited to invasive monitoring, ventilator management, and hemodynamic support.
- Perform common ICU bedside interventions such as bronchoscopy, central line, arterial and chest tube placements.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary team, including surgeons, critical care intensivists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists to coordinate care and facilitate communication.
- Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Lead and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams, guide and support other members, participate in quality improvement, research, and evidence-based practice.
Minimum Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree.
- 2+ years as an Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) preferred; new graduates welcome.
- Cardiothoracic surgery experience preferred but not required; applicants interested in postoperative cardiothoracic critical care encouraged to apply.
- Must demonstrate a high level of clinical autonomy, excellent critical thinking, and ability to practice independently in a fast-paced environment.
- ACLS certification required (may be obtained upon hire).
- Current BLS required; PALS/NRP as required by position.
- Must maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, Virginia Board of Medicine or Nursing.
- Strong communication skills across multidisciplinary teams; collaborative, adaptable; self-directed learning.
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching overhead, repetitive motions (computer keyboard). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 50-100 lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
CompensationThe starting base rate is $ annually, with additional compensation based on qualifications, experience, and education.
