Advanced Practice Provider to work Monday‑Friday (no call, no weekends) from 8 am‑5 pm in an outpatient clinic. The role will support patients with a wide range of cancer diagnoses in radiation oncology, triage and manage inpatient consults in collaboration with an attending MD, and work with 8 radiation oncologists and an APP. Great role for someone who enjoys multi‑tasking in a fast‑paced environment with plenty of variety.
Position is based at the Emily Couric UVA Health Comprehensive Cancer Center. Prior oncology experience and OCN or AOCNP certification are a plus.
- Provide care for medical breast oncology patients in an ambulatory setting.
- Perform routine follow‑up visits for patients on chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and hormonal therapies.
- Evaluate patients requiring acute symptom management.
- Manage patients in longitudinal survivorship post‑treatment.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including research coordinators, social workers, lymphedema therapists, dieticians, surgeons, radiologists, and pathologists.
- Perform and document history & physical exams, analyze clinical data, and form well‑developed differential diagnoses.
- Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic therapies, adjust the plan of care based on ongoing data collection.
- Identify appropriate sub‑specialist consultation.
- Effectively communicate plans of care with patients, families, nurses, and other stakeholders; navigate complex psychosocial dynamics.
- Participate within the organizational systems, initiatives that promote and contribute to the development of the APP, RN, and other colleagues.
- Evaluate/augment quality initiatives to benefit quality of care and patient safety.
- Investigate, utilize, communicate, and participate in the development and utilization of scientific knowledge via research and evidence‑based practice.
- Engage in self‑motivated learning, process improvement, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Evaluate individual clinical practice and role performance via regulatory, state, and institutional guidelines.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team of physicians, APPs, nurses, therapists, and advanced practice leadership.
- Lead other members of the care team in a dynamic environment.
- Participate in organizational initiatives that promote the development of colleagues (APP, RN, others).
- Evaluate and augment quality initiatives and evidence‑based practice to improve outcomes and safety.
- Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.
- License or license‑eligible as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If a nurse practitioner, a license to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.
- Demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required; current PALS/NRP and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required by the position.
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching overhead and repetitive movements. Proficient communication, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 50‑100 lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
CompensationThe starting base rate for this role is $ annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate’s qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
