Advanced Practice Provider; NP​/PA​/APP- Classical Hematology

Overview

Advanced Practice Provider to work Monday-Friday (no call, no weekends) from 8am-5pm. Ambulatory clinic only - no inpatient. Position based at the Emily Couric Comprehensive Cancer Center and will join a team of 3 physicians and 3 other APPs. Clinic visits for all types of benign hematology conditions including anemia, polycythemia, thromboembolism, hemophilia, sickle cell and bleeding disorders. Will be trained to perform bone marrow biopsies.

Prior hematology/oncology or general medicine experience preferred but will train the right candidate. Adult Gerontology/Family NP / Acute care and PA all welcome to apply.

Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.

• Provide care for medical breast oncology patients in an ambulatory setting.
• Perform routine follow-up visits for patients on chemotherapy, immunotherapy and hormonal therapies.
• Evaluate patients requiring acute symptom management.
• Manage patients in longitudinal survivorship post-treatment.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including research coordinators, social workers, lymphedema therapists, dietitians, surgeons, radiologists and pathologists.
• Perform and document history and physical exams, and analyze clinical data to form well-developed differential diagnoses.
• Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies, following patient responses, and adjust the plan of care based on ongoing data.
• Identify appropriate sub-specialist consultations.
• Effectively communicate plans of care with patients, families, nurses and other stakeholders; navigate complex psychosocial dynamics.

• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team of physicians, APPs, nurses, therapists, and leadership.
• Lead other members of the care team in a dynamic environment.
• Participate in organizational initiatives that promote the development of colleagues (APP, RN, others).
• Evaluate and augment quality initiatives and participate in evidence-based practice to improve outcomes and safety.

Education:

Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.

Experience:

Department and unit specific.

Licensure:
License or license-eligible as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequent bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and legibility. Ability to lift/push/pull 50-100 lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The starting base rate for this role is $ annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
